It's a sound problem. As soon as sound for alarms is disabled, Sunbird
works fine.

Did further Tests:
the freeze happenes only, if there are alarms pending! So the root cause
is the notification/alarm which is not displayed.

sunbird can be run as 'root' and works fine, but not as a normal user!
Output if sunbird is started from a x-term:
