This is a bug in Ekiga. The default for the "secondary audio output" aka
ringing device, if it's not explicitly set by the user, is the "SILENT"
device.
See https://github.com/GNOME/ekiga/pull/2 for a patch.

Yes it works!!! I switched the "Ringing device" to "Default" and it worked!

Actually, here there are two entries for Default in Ekiga: One is greyed out
and was set by default. It does not give a rin
Argh! Sorry, I should have checked before!
When debugging it turned out that Ekiga was using another device for the
three events which I could not here.
So in Preferences: Audio: Devices I recognized that "Ringing Device" was
set to "SILENT (Ekiga/Ekiga)". After setting it to default it worked

That issue is serious! How good is a phone application when you don't
hear it ring?

Same problem here. I get the incoming call, but no ringtone is played by
Ekiga.

I am experiencing the same problem on a fresh install of Ubuntu 10.04
with ekiga 3.2.6.
Like the original poster, I verified that Totem plays all the WAV files
located in /usr/share/sounds/ekiga.
I noticed ekiga can also play each of those files, but only if selected
under 'ring tone' or 'busy to
