Can you confirm this issue exists with the most recent Lucid Lynx 10.04
release - http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/releases/lucid/alpha-2/. If the
issue remains in Lucid, please test the latest 2.6.32 upstream kernel

The upstream bug watch claims that the fixes for this problem are
included in 2.6.24 and later. Could those of you who saw this since
then please retest with the latest kernel on your release and report
back here if this is still present for you? Thanks in advance!

This problem still exists with ubuntu kernel 2.6.27-2-generic.
I have the same mainboard GA-8S649MF-FS and my pc hangs if I try to load
sis190.
If I disable the networkcard in the BIOS, I experience no problems
except that on shutdown the pc doesn't turn of, but reboots.

appreciate it if you could please test this newer 2.6.27 Ubuntu kernel.

I have the same problem with Ubuntu 7.04 (Feisty). The card is not
recognized by the installer, if I install it later by hand, it does not
work or shows extremely strange behaviour (see
