Allan Jensen, this bug was reported a while ago and there hasn't been
any activity in it recently. We were wondering if this is still an
issue? If so, could you please test for this with the latest development
release of Ubuntu? ISO images are available from

out the .33 update as that is there to fix a great many other bugs. You
have confirmed that the bug is fixed in v2.6.34 and not in v2.6.33 so

the lucid kernel (pulling the 2.6.33 DRM into the 2.6.32 kernel) so I

I can confirm this bug. Did an upgrade from 9.10 to 10.04 last night.
Booting kernel-image-2.6.32-22-generic shows the second monitor jagged.
While booting kernel-image-2.6.31-21-generic there are no problems. Also
using the open source driver included in 10.04.
Specs:
HP nx9420
ATI x1600 mobile
Apparently it is not recommended to modify /boot/grub/grub.cfg directly
(because this file will be overwritten next time update-grub is called)
A cleaner way to disable KMS is to modify /etc/default/grub instead, by
specifying:
GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX="radeon.modeset=0"
and call update-grub.

A workaround in to disable KMS at boot: I added radeon.modeset=0 in the kernel
options of the grub configuration and the problem seemed to disappear.

By using latest upstream kernel (2.6.34-999-generic #201004211003) it is

Video driver issues should be reported against the driver package so it gets
looked at by the xorg folks.
I'm afraid you'll have to run apport-collect again to make it send the x
related logs/files.

I've been running 10.04 since Alpha 2. I have a HP Compaq 8510p laptop with a
Radeon HD 2600 GFX card. I've connected an extra screen (HP 19" - max
resolution 1280x1024x60hz).

I also tried to see what the registers shows with radeontool. I'm attaching the
two outputs.

I'm supposedly using the open source driver included in 10.04 - no 3rd
party downloaded or installed. I attached dmesg's from a working and
non-working kernel. Let me know if you need additional info.
