after bringing that briefly on #ubuntu-bugs marking the bug as rejected,
the request has no concrete rational. Feel free to reopen if you have a
situation where you think that limit is being a real problem and that
the default should be changed

Not specific to GNOME, "ls" from a command line do the same. Do you
really need to that number of symlinks chained or that was only for
testing purposed? Reassigning to coreutils, though the request might be
good to be marked as rejected, there is no real need to augment that
limit
