According to previous comment it has been fixed in edgy and that works
fine on my desktop, marking as fixed. Feel free to reopen if you still
have the issue with edg

By modem monitor do you mean network monitor? If this is the case, the
bug has been fixed in Edgy. The GIMP issue is known - see bug #14597.
