Well this is quite strange that they have actually solved the problem in
Maverick (on my laptop at least).
I haven't tried Oneiric(I just don't like unity) so I cannot tell you too
much...
I think you can report a new bug on Oneiric separat
I've had the same mute headphone issue and wow, this works smooth :3
Congratulations.

Thanks for reporting back! If the HDMI output is not working (after
correctly having set the HDMI card in gnome's volume control), I think
you should file that as a separate bug against the "fglrx" package.

The package does fix the headphone issue! The HDMI behavior is different
too but not correct. Now the sound comes out through the laptop speakers
even if you choose HDMI as the output.
Congratulations on the fix for the headphone issue. That's a big one.

I have the same problem and I also have an Asus K42jr with lucid. I have
tried compiling the latest alsa driver (1.0.23) but nothing changed.
I even changed /etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base.conf, added "options snd-hda-

This bug is also affecting me ona Dell Studio XPS 16 with a card
identified by Alsa as an IDT92HD73C1X5, with both Karmic and Lucid 64
bits, with a dual headphone jack.
Aplay -l gives the following output:

I just wiped my install of lucid beta 64 bit and installed lucid release
32 bit. The problem still persists.

It hasn't been assigned to anybody so the likelyhood of it being fixes
in time for lucid is pretty close to zero.
The same issue occurs with HDMI. The speakers cut out but no sound
through HDMI.
I guess we have to wait for an ALSA update after the release.

Is there any word on a fix or workaround for this? I can reproduce this
behavior on two machines, both running Lucid RC (64bit), updated as of
24 Apr 2010.
