This seems to be exactly my problem, though I am using a Creative Zen-

Surprising turn of events... the libmtp which works on ubuntu lucid 10.04.1
DOES support my phone nokia 5130 but for some reason, it's simply just
becomes 'dumb' and complains it can't detect the phone. It only works after a
fresh reboot and connect. A nice phone icons appears with the phone

Maverick provides a newer version of libmtp, which should support your device.

I can confirm it is not fixed... "Unable to open the Nokia 5130
XpressMusic device" Updated the system two seconds ago.
