Normally the audio routing is handled by pulseaudio (which is used by the gnome
audio preference).
So after connecting the headset you just have to switch the output (right-click
the speaker, and select tab output).
for me it works fine.

http://wiki.bluez.org/wiki/HOWTO/AudioDevices doesn't mention this, and
the instructions it gives are out of date, which is likely to lead to
endless and unnecessary frustration. (I'd update the wiki page myself if
they had a working new-account page.)
