After 5 years of running one install, i decided it was time to upgrade
my hardware and do a fresh install. This bug no longer effects me.
Unless there is opposition, I would vote that it is labeled as
"incomplete" like it's near duplicate Bug #572937 and set to expire.

This bug affects me, in particular it prevents me from starting KDE.
With the symlink wrong, ksmserver crashes and I get thrown back to kdm.
Therefore, I think this bug should be marked with "High" importance,

I uninstall the driver using synaptic and install it using jockey (System >
Admin > Hardware Drivers).
I know that is not the best way to do it but at least i can start Amarok

yes, I used to have the nvidia drivers installed using the nvidia installer.
But I did an uninstall before I upgraded my ubuntu to 10.04. And the nvidia
drivers from the installer were some 190 version, not the 185.

Is there a way that I can help to further debug this problem. It's super
annoying that the link to /usr/lib/libGL.so.1 get's rewritten everytime
I reboot.

Oh, and if I do
$ dpkg -S /usr/lib/libGL.so.185.18.36
dpkg: /usr/lib/libGL.so.185.18.36 not found.
so I don't know where this file is coming from.
