I have the same problem with the same Asus laptop, with the black screen
issue straight after booting into gnome on the live cd. A box appears in
the centre of the screen, which I assume is the ubiquity instal

I have the same problem with Ubuntu Lucid Lynx Beta2 , after the first
charge the screen goes black and i can do nothing

I've tried to install ubuntu 10.04 , but the installer gives me a black
screen one moment before i can choose if i want to try ubuntu in "Live" or to
install it.
Every time i've tried it gives me the same problem:
