Would it be possible to add a README.txt in:
/usr/share/doc/{ethereal,tethereal}/
stating that these are dummy packages, and the replacement commands for
them. It took some time to find the replacement for tethereal was
tshark.

If wireshark isn't in the Ubuntu archive, it should be. Ethereal is now
old, and currently has major security issues. See
