You can use the alternate install CD to install lilo, but I really would
recommend just creating a small /boot if you want / to be XFS - it's
simple enough to do and will probably save you trouble on average.

thanks for your fast answer.
Is it possible to install ubuntu with lilo? Or just keep the /boot
settings away so that I can change it later manually? (I still have
another harddisc with suse and grub (on a reiserfs) so I still have a
boot loader).

Thanks for your report. Due to some reliability problems with GRUB and
XFS, you need to use a non-XFS root filesystem or create a non-XFS /boot
filesystem. The fact that the partitioner doesn't warn you about this
up-front is also bug 47848, and is fixed in dapper-updates. We'll be
doing a point re
