This bug isn't specific to Ubuntu. I come from Debian Squeeze and after
a recent update of initscripts (and its related packages), I got these
messages when doing update-initramfs:

I don know, but fixed for me after this

>From what I can tell in main.log update-manager failed to download a
tremendous number of things and I believe that is what caused this
issue. Additionally, I believe the error message about
"/scripts/functions" is a red herring.

I ran "apt-get dist-upgrade" again and it finished without an error, but
it did not add kernel 2.6.32-17-generic to grub. I updated grub/menu.lst
manually, but when it boots it never gets past the splash screen with
the five dots.
