may have been fixed
Rhythmbox 0.13.1 in Ubuntu 10.10
It does pop up an error saying
"None of the tracks to be transferred are in a format supported by the
target device, and no encoders are available for the supported formats."
But is not helpful as to what those encoders are.

Rhythmbox does not transcode to mp
Same issue here. I tried for a good half hour to figure out why my music
wouldn't copy before I figured out it was silently failing because it
was an unsupported format.

Let me help (since I'm seeing the same thing - thanks Dan for pointing
out how to fix it):
* Attach an MP3 player (an Applie iPhone 3GS in my case) which does not support
the playing of OGG files.
* Open RhythmBox (I'm using 0.12.8 as shipped with Ubuntu 10.04).
* From your music library, select

player is required. Try dragging an ogg vorbis file onto it and
rhythmbox will fail to transcode it.
It will however, give no error. It will simply do nothing.
Instead it should prompt the user to install gstreamer0.10-plugi
