Thanks for pointing me to this quick workaround "jcervilla", on my
system it worked only after I disabled KMS via kernel parameter (I don't
know why the original method using "/etc/modprobe.d/radeon-kms.conf"
didn't have any effect on my laptop.). In "/etc/default/grub" I added:
GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX=

I have similar problem with ATI Mobility Radeon X1600 when I connect
external monitor via DSUB (it is actually Sony Bravia KDL-26P3000 HD
Ready TV). The image on external monitor is blurry and flickering as
