Starting with 1.4 unattended-upgrades recommends overriding default
configuration values in separate files in /etc/apt/apt.conf.d/.

Isn't it conventional to forward all mail addressed to system users to
some real user? The default u-u config could just send mail to "root",
and then the system MTA can be configured to forward that accordingly.
So the same person who gets spammed about failed cron jobs et al. gets
u-u upgrade mes
