look at bug 640240, its quite the same symptoms with maverick. I'm
wondering about applets config to be blamed: old settings left behind,
or conflicts with other distro (Lucid/Maverick) as they share the same
/home. I've removed/purged then reinstalled several times gnome-panel,

Ubuntu better. A new version of Gnome Settings Daemon is available on
Maverick and we are wondering if this bug is still an issue for you with

Pulseaudio give me some headhaches but it start without trouble (system mode
and some warnings related to only)
So, if you says that those multiple connection errors are related to pulseaudio
( and my connection are good, maybe only a problem of timing or priority to
start)
I'm not convinced this is a gnome-settings-daemon issue. The "Connection
failed, reconnecting..." messages are because you don't have Pulseaudio
running, but this won't stop your session from loading
