I verify with the new tool to test each speakr separately, my speakers
placement isn't well chosen. But Chnaging volume is, actually, totally
linear, that's cool!

I actually use Maverick, and this bug is very less present, even if, in
some cases, the choice of type of sound output ( 4.0, 7.1) doesn't seems
to correctly work

I tried with this news drivers :
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Audio/InstallingLinuxAlsaDriverModules , it's a
little bit better, but there are still problems, depending how we select
the sound ( 7.1, 4.0) some times it's still not linear for one or an
other speaker ( front, back...)

Hi,
Sorry for the delay on this. I did some reading up and it seems as if
you are suffering unreliable DB data from the alsa drivers for your
card. More background here http://0pointer.de/blog/projects/decibel-
data.html
Lennart has kindly provided a wiki page on how to debug this -
http://pulsea
Should I report an other bug, affecting pulse?

Sounds like a pulse bug. The indicator sets the volume on the actual
device (or sink) - how and which actual ports i.e. speakers are then
attenuated is a matter for pulse and the device and as you have already
pointed out the profile you are using.

I discovered something very very interesting.
My sound card is in 5.1 output -analog input.
This bug seems to happen only on the front loud speaker. Volume on back
speakers, instead of front, is changing in a normal way, linearly.
