I'm not sure I fully understand the issue, but it looks like it could
simply be an ordinary bug in the renderer. I guess it could be a driver
bug but there's not enough evidence here that we could take this bug
upstream. Feel free to reopen the -ati task if you get some further

2) I should try on Karmic
3) I have this problem using live cd onn a laptop with an ATI HD 3400 graphic
card, using open source driver.
4) It doesn't seem to be slower, at least for me.

Not sure what issue you are encountered there. Do you have that on every
icons? Is it new to lucid compared to karmic? Is the netbook-launcher
really slow? (== do you have hardware graphic acceleration?)
