+1 confirmed on Dell inspiron 1545 with Intel GM45 on gnome. I had no
problems using karmic. the problems started after upgrade.

I also affected by this bug with latest Lucid updates. I have Ubuntu Desktop
64bit on a Lenovo Thinkpad T500.
However, I did follow Chris Jones advice (Comment #5) and it is working. I did
not have this sync flashes today during the whole time.

I'm having random flashes as well on an ASUS UL30A-X5 (intel 4500MHD).
And I can confirm it's not limited to Compiz. I get the same flicker
with desktop effects disabled.

The Acer Extensa 5630Z is also affected by this bug. The
i915.powersave=0 workaround solves the problem.

I can confirm this happens also on my Thinkpad T500 (2082-7SG) using the
integrated graphic card (Intel 4500MHD), I have not tested with the discrete
graphic card (Radeon Mobilty 3650HD). I'm using Lucid x64 with all the latest
updates.

Yes: could people who experience this problem please try passing
i915.powersave=0 to the kernel command line. We've got one report of
success with an x200s, but it would be useful if everyone with a piece
of affected hardware could try it.

scanned up to look for the post where you summarized your hardware and
driver and since you apparently never provided it (tsk tsk bad bug
