The distributed binary is all that is needed. If it is known as "unpigz", it will unpack the archive, otherwise it will create it. A simple workaround is: sudo ln -s /usr/bin/pigz /usr/local/bin/unpigz However, I disagree that this is a "wishlist". Vital functionality is missing from the package
