This package is removed in feisty (as linked by dh above), but it is still a
problem in edgy+dapper, and will be for 2 more years!
what would be an apropriate course of action to take? on this bug?

Confirmed, exactly the same problem.
This casts a bit of a long shadow, since it causes the upgrade to LTS to
fail. I am not sure, but I suspect it may be behind some new problems
with 802.11b, which was always rock solid before. Don't know for sure.
