some discussion about it on the forum.

Yes in fact the applet is no more. you can access the preferences under System
> Preferences > UbuntuOne. Also you can open the Ubuntu One folder and use the
Connect/Disconnect from there. Also the u1sdtool is very handy. You can read
about its options by entering in the Terminal
That crossed my mind but was inconsistent with reports I had heard about
it getting a Humanity-style icon and the lack of control didn't seem to
fit with where they were taking it (ie a Dropbox-like service which is
somewhat useless if you can't tell if it's working/how fast its
working/etc)

I also have the same issue with the Lucid Netbook Edition. No sign of
the applet. I wonder if this is intentional?
