[Bug 528026] Re: Often freezes before GDM login screen appears

Hrm. Intel drm is annoyingly terse during startup. I'll need to look at the various drm.debug options in order to find out how to make it say what it thinks it's doing. Bug #535640 has been fixed, however. Do you still get the intermittent freezes after suspend with the 2.6.32-19 kernel? -- O

I suspect that your freeze after suspend might be bug #535640, but without logs it's difficult to tell. The strange screen on startup seems like it might be a kernel modesetting issue. Could you please boot your computer and run “apport- collect 528026” if it displays the 1/4 screen bootsplash pr

After upgrade to kernel 2.6.32-16 and installing the PPAs suggested the overall system behavior improved. The boot process begins with the purple Ubuntu screen then the image is shrinked to about 1/4 and moved to the left upper corner. Then The GDM screen comes up and restores the graphics. Fro

Thanks Daniel, look forward to hearing the testing. One other thing you could test on the off chance, is to uninstall plymouth. Your symptoms differ but some people have had boot problems when plymouth was installed. ** Changed in: xserver-xorg-video-intel (Ubuntu) Status: Incomplete => N

Hello Bryce, I will answer the two messages in one: 1. It is a complete system freeze. No mouse, no keyboard (caps and num lock un responsive) only the brown GDM backround. After a poweroff the system goes to 800x600 with a probability of 50% or has one of the following behaviours: 1.1 Freezes a

[This is an automatic notification.] Thanks for reporting this bug to help making the Intel graphics driver better. We hear from upstream that a number of bugs (possibly including this one) have been fixed in the newer DRM code from the 2.6.33 kernel. I don't know if your bug is one of the ones f

You mentioned 'crash' in your report, but I notice a gpu dump got captured, which only occurs for X freezes. Can you confirm that what you've seen is a freeze (system appears to lockup but maybe the mouse cursor moves) rather than a crash (dumps you back to login screen)? -- Often freezes before
