Hello, i discovered same problem as Rominet on OVH server. Here is a
sniff of discussion between server and client. I can confirm that
changing from ftp://ftp.hostname.be to ftp://[EMAIL PROTECTED] is a
working workaround.

Hi,
I just hit this bug with konqueror under an up-to-date feisty box : I
tried to connect to an OVH ftp using just the ftp://ftp.hostname.net :
it asked for a username/pass , then asked again, and then "failed to
dwitch to the directory". It also said "please fill in a bug" ;)
I finally tried to

I can confirm the behavior mark_orion described with FTP on dapper.
However I have not tried it on Edgy and haven't used (or updated) Dapper
in a while.

I am now rather confused by your last comment, you reported a bug with
smb and ftp yet you seem to be saying that you haven't actually tried to
use smb?
Please could you clarify.

User authentication for SMB and ftp does not work through dialogbox
https://launchpad.net/bugs/52634
On my system the big difference is if I am using an fqdn or a plain IP address.
ftp://myserver.mydomain.here works fine (I get the dialog and can log on)
ftp://192.168.1.8 opens the dialog as well, but I am not getting in.
I checked the logs on the server (vsftpd): It actually logs in, but konquero
I cant confirm this (at least for ftp) with kde 3.5.3, kubuntu dapper.
Note that the username and password is case sensitive.
Could there be bad config files or something causing this? I've never
seen this error reported before.

User authentication for SMB and ftp does not work through dial
I am prompted for a password if i access something like
smb://young/homes/
in Konqueror by typing it in the URI field, was this how you were
trying?
Unfortunately I don't have any non-anonymous ftp servers to try ftp
login on.
