@dns_server: You still see this problem with the 2.6.32-16 kernel?
Would it be possible for you to boot your system, ssh in from another
computer and run “apport-collect 525354”?
If you can't do that, attaching /var/lib/messages from your laptop would
be useful.

I am also having this same problem, upon starting X the screen goes black.
It also blacks out all other virtual terminals.

Just adding a comment to say that this happens to myself also, except
I'm running ATI hardware and the open source radeon driver... but
exactly the same symptoms. Is it more than just the nouveau driver?

Can you try one of the post-alpha 3 live dailies? They now have a
firmware-generator that should enable acceleration on your card; it's
possible that it will also fix your VT problems.

Ok. I've tried with my laptop too, which sports and nVidia quadro 140M.
Results are almost the same, just the "hang-on" time is a little bit
smaller.
In the xorg log, as with the other nvidia card, I can read the error:

In xorg.0.log there are also some clue that nouveau support nv
I get blank screen booting lucid alpha3 live. My graphic card is a
9800GTX+.
I can assume is something connected to nouvea because last thing I see
on the screen (booting without "quiet splash") are some log lines
referred to nouveau. Then everything goes black and the system hangs on.

Let's focus this bug report on the blank screen issue. Sounds like just
a vt mapping bug.
For the crash, please file a separate bug report. Probably easiest
thing would be to update to latest lucid, reproduce the crash, and let
apport capture the trace. If that doesn't work for some reason, see
