I think the original bug here has been fixed and I have submitted or
commented on bug reports dealing with the other problem. Thus I will
close this bug report.

Resuming from hibernate doesn't work on Think
After uninstalling Upstart (which I recently installed), the "stopping
tasks timed" error seems to have stopped.

I am currently getting this with 2.6.17-9-generic (although I get it
with older kernels as well, so I am not sure what happened):
Sep 22 22:26:40 localhost kernel: [17179766.856000] Stopping tasks:

I should note that this happen equally with AHCI or compatibility modes.
I think the AHCI bug is no longer the problem.

Hibernating and resuming has become less reliable for me with the recent
versions of Edgy, but an exact pattern is hard to establish. Sometimes
the machine doesn't hibernate properly. When it does hibernate, it
usually resumes after the first hibernate after boot but locks up on the

I am opening this again, as it still occurs with the latest kernel. It
seems to occur if and only if "Serial (ATA) mode" is set to "AHCI" in
the bios. If I set it to "Compatibility," everything works fine, which
is why I initially thought that this bug was fixed.

One minor update after reading the initial report:
The LCD light gets turned on but the screen stays black and it doesn't
reach the point with the vertical brown lines that occur right before it
enters X. Also, the hibernate light on the laptop is turned off at this
point.
