I believe this bug is not specific to ncurses but has something to do with the
keyboard generating the wrong code when the pound key is pressed.
Since installing 6.06 (on a machine previously running Mandriva) my pound key
generates an extra (control?) character as well as the correct pound sign.
Working sideways to get something specific -
showkey within Gnome Terminal 2.14.2 returns an error "Couldn't get a file
descriptor referring to the console".
So does dumpkeys.
