When I ran update-manager this evening, grub-pc's configuration screen
showed up once again - updated. This time, I selected /dev/sdb as well
as /dev/sda and I got my My Book back. Thank you.

I ran the commands requested and got this output:

I have used Post-Restoration Commands and now grub works fine and grub
menu indicates 1.98 20100128 again

I have similar problem, i marked just /dev/sda and /dev/sdb (i have 2
disks) and installation no error returned, but after reboot i can boot
windows but can't boot to linux. When I choose linux and hit enter
everything hang, I can't do anything just restart my computer. I have
reinstalled grub2 usi
Heh, there's an obvious UI deficiency here. You weren't supposed to
choose all of the sda options, just the top-level one (/dev/sda, not
/dev/sda1 etc.). I agree that the message is confusing. I wonder if
choosing both partitions and disks contributed to this bug; it certainly
wasn't something I

After I rebooted, I also noted that I lost my /dev/sdb drive (external
My Book). The last time I had to configure grub-pc, I had it configured
on the My Book as well as on the internal hard drive. I realized that
it didn't need to be on the My Book, so I checked only the /dev/sda
options.
