After asking a dell rep about the machine it turns out that it doesn't
actually have a webcam. It just has the chassis for it (the glass
housing above the monitor and the led light next to it). I just couldn't
imagine that it didn't have one since dell had bothered to make it look

In some cases, due to upgrade instead of fresh install, we have seen issues
that are only apparent because of the use of some old drivers with others
blacklisted. Testing from a liveCD image gives the opportunity to test against
the release as shipped.

I installed cheese to see if Ubuntu had detected the webcam. It hadn't. I
installed also luvcview. There is no /dev/video* device.
Here is the output from lsusb. Perhaps that information could be of help.
