I am also seeing this on Natty, perhaps the old nvidia drivers did not
uninstall cleanly?

mplayer needs to be fixed to build-dep on libvdpau-dev / dep on libvdpau
rather than using the old nvidia libvdpau stuff. It won't work properly
with it right now.
