Upgraded to a 10.04 final release and still no microphone. On top of
that my little model=auto prefix in alsa-base.conf doesn't work anymore
so now I'm really screwed. It would appear ubuntu is going backwards as
far as hardware compatibility goes.

Brad,
I'm not sure if I'm getting all this right, if not let me know. I've
installed and booted into 2.6.34-999-generic and tested the microphone
again and still no luck, I had no change at all. The fallowing is what I
get when I run "apport-collect -p alsa-base 502223" under the new

Hi Domel,
If you could also please test the latest upstream kernel available that would
be great. It will allow additional upstream developers to examine the issue.
Refer to https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelMainlineBuilds . Once you've tested the
upstream kernel, please remove the 'needs-upstre
Just tested the newest release of Lucid daily image and still no
microphone. This time under the input tab of audio preferences there are
no devices detected at all. I hope this gets resolved by the time Lucid
gets released other wise I'll be forever stuck on 9.04.

This looks very similar to the issues in bug #460351 that you have
already subscribed to. Unfortunately I am unsure as to what else you
could try in order to resolve this issue. I would suggest adding the
"model=auto" back to your alsa-base.conf so that your external mic will
function again.

I've checked the BIOS and there is no way to disable the modem. I've
also checked the alsamixer and turned up everything that has to do with
audio input to 100% and still no luck. What confuses me is that in the
alsamixer and sound preferences there is an option of 3 audio input
sources (Microphone

OK, that's strange. The soft modem is being referred to in a few of your
attached files. Do you have any option to disable the modem in your BIOS
settings? If you do, please disable the modem in your BIOS.
I also noticed when looking through your "Card0.Amixer.values.txt" that

I've removed the "model=auto" from the alsa-base.conf then installed the

Have you tried my suggestion from your original bug report? (bug
#502159)
Can you please remove the model quirk you have entered into
/etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base.conf (i.e. remove the "model=auto" line) &
install the "linux-backports-module-alsa-generic" package, then reboot &
try testing again.
