On 2.6.32-14-generic kernel that I currently have installed, the webcam
works fine -- I can still check older upstream kernels if it will help
to make a better release, or to find an unfixed regression in the
upstream kernel. Please let me know whether I should go ahead and check
older kernels.

@Asif,
Can you please try older upstream kernels to determine if there was a
breakage between them? You can start out with 2.6.31.6 (which the
current Karmic kernel is based on) to see if that works at all. If it
does, then keep trying newer ones until you find where the breakage
occurred.
