Same thing for me with my new Dell Inspiron Mini 1012.
In Ubuntu 9.10 the vertical scrolling works everywhere beautifully, even
in Terminal. Its a real pleasure. But the horizontal scrolling doesn't
work at all.
In Windows XP from the same laptop both vertical and horizontal work but

Same problem with Dell XPS M1330. Vertical scrolling works and
gsynaptics recognizes horizontal scrolling as enabled, but it doesn't
actually work.

That's no good. :/
I wonder if it's the numeric values are wrong for the xorg.conf. Granted,
I don't expect you to boot in and out of X, so I suppose we'll have to leave
this bug unresolved until a developer gets a similar laptop.
Thanks for your help!

Okay. It sort-of works.
The touchpad itself works, but tracing the finger from one side of the
pad to the other moves the cursor about 1cm and vertical scroll doesn't
work. Both of these things did work before I made the first lot of
changes.
In addition, the horizontal scroll and multi-finger-ta
Ah yes. You have two CorePointers. Can you change the 'Option "CorePointer";
in the Section "InputDevice" identified as "Configured Mouse" to 'Option
"SendCoreEvents"'?
That should make things work.

"AlwaysCore".

This is odd. Could you attach the /var/log/Xorg.0.log that is produced with

Here is the attached .conf file.
Now my touchpad and associated buttons do not work at all. Thankfully,
plugging my external USB mouse in still works. Please let me know what
to do next or I will revert back to my original configuration file.

I notice that your xorg.conf file doesn't have a Load "synaptics" line.
What happens when you edit the xorg.conf by following the
instructions in /usr/share/doc/xserver-xorg-input-synaptics/README.Debian.gz?
Can you attach your revised xorg.conf file, after following these
instructions?
