ampersand in user real name freezes login screen
Now I have tested and removed the '&' character from the long username and it
works! But, I still think that this is an issue and I would prefer a correction
that allows gdm to handle usernames with a '&' character.

try under lucid? Do you have an "&" in an username? The description is
