Ok. I think, sometime in my tiring efforts to get scim XIM to work on my
machines, I did
im-switch -s default
which created a $HOME/.xinput.d/en_US
So,
rm -rf ~/.xinput.d
Reboot.
This time, kwin works, SCIM XIM works, and everything is OK.
How come ?

cd /etc/X11/xinit/xinput.d/
mv default bak_default
Reboot.
This time, kwin starts OK. (But of course XIM SCIM doesnt work).
Then,...
cd /etc/X11/xinit/xinput.d/
mv bak_default en_US
Reboot.
This time, same issue as above, but XIM SCIM works.
