emesene 1.x is not supported anymore. Please use emesene 2, which is available
in from the standard repositories since Natty, or from our ppa:

I can confirm that I can reproduce this on ubuntu 10.04 (emesene version
1.6.1-0ubuntu1) when starting emesene from the menu. To reproduce
install emesene, start emesene from the Applications menu, then repeat
to start additional instances.
