OK. I couldn't reproduce either way, I don't have time to install
older version than upgrade and see if it removes the script again :-)

My ubuntu passed away with a died HDD. I don't remember how exactly I

The iptables package doesn't remove /etc/defaults/iptables-rules. apt-
file search doesn't report any package that wants to clobber it.
Apparently some other package deleted it, but that's going to be very to
track down, and very difficult to duplicate.

It's a gentoo script - customized.
I don't think the upgrade should delete any user-added scripts.
