It is not an issue anymore. I fixed the problem. But
the problem was a little more complex.
It seems at that time some ALSA drivers lock the
mixer or the audio input, but I didn't try enough
to know what drivers exactly do this or what exactly
is happening.

This bug was reported a while ago and there hasn't been any activity in it
recently. We were wondering if this is still an issue? Can you try with the
latest development release of Ubuntu? ISO CD images are available from
http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/releases/ .
