Bug #509092 seems to be a duplicate of this (or the other way around)...

This should be fixed with the most recent hal:
hal (0.5.14-0ubuntu2) lucid; urgency=low
* 10-x11-input.fdi, debian/rules: Do not install 10-x11-input.fdi any more,
X.org uses udev now. This brings those parts back in sync with Debian.
* Change startup from init/upstart to D-Bus activation

Pitivi won't run, complains about missing dbus hal .service file
ht
hi
i get exactly the same message as noted above.
"lshal" indicates, that no hald is running, which is correct according to ps.
i have hal version 0.5.13-1ubuntu8 installed, but it is not started by default.
if i start it manually, pitivi shows up normally.
maybe i have tinkered with hald startup

Grrr, looks like this was a transient system problem, it's working fine
today.

Do you have the "hal" package installed? Does "lshal" give you several
screen pages of output, or just a short error message?

Could someone with some hal-fu please comment on what the issue might
