the test page seems to work from time to time. currently the build
number of openjdk matches the one from sun-java, so it's currently
working, however still responding that you are using sun-java ... so
that isn't a problem with openjdk but with the test page

Marco: your problem seems unrelated to this bug. In fact, the example
you link to works fine in my version of the icedtea plugin under
firefox. Perhaps you should file a new bug report, don't forget to state
what browser you're using with what addons.

If I install sun-java6-plugin instead of openjdk+icedtea (ubuntu 9.10
64bit), on the Java applet example site page
http://java.sun.com/applets/jdk/1.4/index.html (first 4 examples) I
obtain these warnings (and nothing works - again):
