Hello Johannes,
Thank you for submitting this bug and reporting a problem with the hplip
package. You made this bug report in 2009 and Ubuntu and hplip have been
updated since then.
Could you confirm that this is no longer a problem and that we can close the
ticket?
If it is still a problem,

Finally, I got it working for me. I had to install Lucid-Gnome in
VirtualBox, and setup the printer as described in this bug report, then
copy the URI to my real machine. It turned out that those two URI use
different drivers:
hpijs (doesn't work): hp:/usb/Photosmart_2570_series?serial=MY7293132V0
usb://HP/Officejet%206300%20series?serial=...
I think that's the one that was working (I haven't used the printer in a
while)

Ok so this seems to work for people on gnome, but I have no idea how to
make this work on KDE. I couldn't find the way to change the connection
to USB, as the previous posters mentionned.
Currently, my printer's URI looks like this:
hp:/usb/Photosmart_2570_series?serial=MY7293132V04DY
Can any of

Go to System -> Administration -> Printing -> right-click on the printer ->
Properties -> Device URI - Change... -> Connection (choose USB). I hope it

I have the exact same problem with the same printer. I was trying to
print a photo from GIMP on Kubuntu 9.10. I noticed that something went
wrong when I got a "Home partition is out of space" error dialog.

Forwarded to the HPLIP upstream project, seems to be a problem of HP's
CUPS backend.

Note: when this happens, you can very quickly burn a huge amount of
space in /var/log. As in, 39 gigabytes in /var/log/daemon.log,

I'm also seeing this exact problem with an HP 6310 printer. I wonder
if it is related to Launchpad Bug #313504, as the HP6310 is also a
multi-function device (scanner + flash card reader).
