This is actually not a bug in beep - beeps can't get through if the
pcspkr module is blacklisted. Please bring the issue up against the
packages that add the blacklist entry. Also see the linked Debian
bugreport for more information.

I found that modprobe pcspkr works for me, but not if
1) you remove pcspkr from /etc/modprobe.d/blacklist.conf
or
2) you add pcspkr to /etc/modules
This is all somewhat paradoxical and mysterious, and didn't really get me to
where I wanted to be, which was to get Qt's QApplication::beep(); worki

This affects me too. "modprobe pcspkr" resolves the issue. This might
also affect other things that are really supposed to beep, like ping -a?
(That doesn't seem to beep for me even with pcspkr loaded.) Either
pcspkr should be enabled when beep is installed, or it should be enabled
all the time
