$ cat /proc/asound/version
Advanced Linux Sound Architecture Driver Version 1.0.20.
$ uname -a
Linux frodo 2.6.31-14-generic #48-Ubuntu SMP Fri Oct 16 14:05:01 UTC 2009

$ tail -n
Thanks for the information. Just for clarification, is it required that
both of the steps be taken? Many users have found it sufficient to
install just the package, others have noticed that just the line is
enough.
