Hi afrodoc,
This bug was reported a while ago and there hasn't been any activity in it
recently. We were wondering if this is still an issue? Can you try with the
latest development release of Ubuntu? ISO CD images are available from
http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/releases/ .

I have found the same behavior on my laptop after upgraded to 9.10. The
USB drive is Maxtor OneTouch as well. Other external USB drive seem to
be OK.
I also found a strange work around. If I open a terminal shell and cd to
the USB Maxtor drive folder and just leave it there. Then the USB drive
