I might not know exactly how the messaging applet should work.
But if you have pidgin running and you use the status applet, empathy
should definitely not be involved in it.
I think that only running programs should be affected by status changes.
am I wrong?

There are still 2 cases in which the status is enabled and this causes empathy
to connect:
- open empathy + quit it
- open pidgin
In both cases if you use the status menu you will be connected

I can add a further example in which this behavior is wrong:
- install pidgin
- open pidgin
- change the status using the indicator applet
You'll end up with empathy open. This is a nonsense.

this behavior is still present in the new indicator-applet-me
If this is the wanted behavior, please make it available also after the
login, and not only if you close empathy. in this way it is more
coherent.
