Thanks for the log files.
Unfortunately I don't know a good site to learn about ubuntu from ground
up, I can only suggest specialized sites. A google search or a good unix
book from the library will probably help to get a better understanding
of the system. Its somewhat complex but worth learning
Did see something about a broken config during the upgrade? It seems
like it "warns" and fails (where it should warn, move the broken file
aside and continue).

Yes i have tried to attach all files from that location. There are three
folders in there as well (20091101-1316, 20091101-1317 and
20091101-1322) but they contain some or all of the same files as the
attached loose files i.e. apt.log, main.log and term log
