Sorry for the late answer, I overlooked your question. I couldn't solve
the problem, so I've reinstalled my system and in the new one I don't
find this bug any more. It was probably nothing serious. So I'm not
affected by this bug any more. Thanks for dealing with it, anyway.

I'm doing the updates through the terminal for now, with the command "sudo
apt-get update && sudo apt-get dist-upgrade". If update manager doesn't work,
it's a quite serious bug. But otherwise ubuntu 9.10 is the best OS I've ever
seen, really great stuff, thanks for that.
