against linux and try enabling position_fix=1 by appending it to the
options snd-hda-intel line in /etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base.conf

Confirmed on an MSI U120
Audio WAS working until the update.
EVERYTHING that other people suggest trying (and claim to work) do not
work I just checked that libcanberra-pulse is installed
Why cant they just release an update that fixes this? And shouldn't this
sorta thing be tested before it
I also can confirm this on a fresh karmic install on a Compaq D510 SFF.

And by the way, just out of curiosity: I remember that at
logout/shutdown/restart under Jaunty I got that sort of
echoed/reverbered voice saying "Aah!" (should be a keyboard), but
haven't heard it in Karmic anymore. Since I haven't read around about

I have been getting the same stuttering login on my Thinkpad R50e ever
since I did a fresh install of Karmic. libcanberra-pulse is installed.

One more thing, I'd just like to say that this problem was not present
in Jaunty. The bug doesn't effect any thing other than the 'smoothness'
of log in. It just seems to be a bit of a shame after all the effort put
into to the look and feel of the karmic login, that the final stage of
the login sp

the machines are hp compaq nc6000 and a number of hp D530 's.

I suspect that you're just hitting the watermark instability that
seems to affect some drivers.

This is a fresh install from the text-based installer of 9.10.
Not sure how to tell what audio backends for libcanberra are installed.
libcanberra-pulse is installed if that's what you mean.
